Hey Kinship Family,
As the flowers begin to bloom and warmer days return, I find myself reflecting on both the challenges we've faced and the hope that a new season brings.
It has been a long and difficult year. Living in DC, I see firsthand many of the political changes happening around us. It can feel disheartening, overwhelming, and even scary at times. Yet, in conversations with LGBTQ+ elders and advocacy groups working for change, I am reminded of some powerful truths.
First, we are not alone. While some remain silent, there are countless others — in organizations, on social media, and in everyday life — who are fighting fiercely for our humanity and dignity.
Second, our LGBTQ+ community is resilient. We’ve made it through so much — from times when being LGBTQ+ was criminalized to eras when people could be fired simply for being themselves. Around the world, we are still working to make life better for all of us.
And third, we have more power than we realize. When we live our truth boldly and authentically, those who fear our strength push back — but that only shows the impact we are making. Every act of authenticity is an act of courage.
So as this year continues, I am inspired by the strength and love within our community. I’m also inspired by spring itself — the flowers blooming, the warming days, and all the possibilities that lie ahead in 2025.
As Kinship leaders, we meet monthly to discuss our vision, upcoming projects, and collaborations with other groups committed to justice and equality for LGBTQ+ people and beyond.
Please keep Kinship in your prayers as we continue working for positive change. And if you have ideas, dreams, or ways you'd like to see our community grow this year, we would love to hear from you.
In solidarity,
